At Kapi‘olani Community College, 40 percent of students recently reported going without meals, opting for tuition, books, rent, transportation and childcare, instead of saimin or rice. Declining grades, self-esteem, mental health and physical well-being are only part of the picture. The impact of food insecurity reaches into the heart of our entire community and has deepened since the pandemic. This is why campus volunteers at the Pohukaina Food Pantry offer free bags of groceries each week to their fellow students. We’re grateful for your compassionate support, and we’re still moving forward.
With your help on Giving Tuesday last year, we raised more than $10,000 which allowed the food pantry to feed 5,000 of your future nurses, accountants, teachers and paramedics, your friends and neighbors. Because nobody should have to choose between education and sustenance.
Will you help us again this Giving Tuesday to ensure our students have access to nutritious food and meals? Gifts of every amount make a difference - please make a gift today!
