Lyon Arboretum needs your help.
We want to make our grounds and our educational programming more accessible to keiki of all backgrounds.
A field trip to Lyon Arboretum costs $7 per student. Title I schools often struggle to afford this and lose out on the opportunity to experience the beauty of nature first-hand.
Last year with your help, we raised over $2,400 which allowed us to waive fees for more than 260 keiki. Your generosity also assisted with the cost of school buses and provided educational resources for teachers, extending the lessons in the classroom. Onsite, you brought classroom learning to life as students walked through a real rainforest bursting with life, surrounded by the colors, scents, and sounds of nature.
Will you help us with a gift to support field trips for these keiki?
If you can spare $7, we can waive the fee for one student to visit the arboretum. With $175, you create an opportunity for an entire class from a Title I school.
Our field trips support classroom teachers' curricula and are place-based. They emphasize the unique plants and animals we have at Lyon, as well as Hawai‘i’s history and culture.
Hawaiʻi has the dubious honor of being the endangered species capital of the world. At Lyon, students have the opportunity to see, in-person, some of our critically endangered plants that may even be extinct in the wild. It is a memorable experience and can lead to a lifelong spirit to mālama ʻāina.
By helping our keiki to visit Lyon, you are helping our ʻāina because they are the future stewards of our islands.

What is a Title I School? The Title I program provides financial assistance to schools that serve a high percentage of students from low-income families. Field trips are not part of this support, but these students deserve the same opportunities to engage with our ʻāina and to form a lasting connection to it.
