Over the past 20 years, close to 400 video interviews have been conducted with Maui’s senior citizens, including business leaders, politicians, plantation workers, and cherished kūpuna from all walks of life. The interviews are then aired on MCTV digital cable channel 354 (in Maui County) for the public to enjoy and learn about Maui’s history.
Previously, the interviews were also available online via our video on demand service. Now, in order to meet ADA compliance regulations in accordance with the UH System's Voluntary Resolution Agreement, we need help finishing transcriptions for all the video interviews. Transcribing will take approximately 2,000-5,000 hours and requires people who are familiar with Hawaiʻi's languages and dialects, which makes it a challenging task, however, UHMC is committed to providing high-quality closed-captions so everyone will be able to enjoy the interviews online via our video on demand service.
Please help us complete the transcriptions so that we can put the video interviews back online, and then start a new round of interviews to preserve Maui’s unique history!
