The School of Pacific & Asian Studies (SPAS), founded in 1986, is a strategic cornerstone of the mission of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. SPAS is composed of eight area centers (Centers for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Okinawan, Pacific Islands, Philippine, South Asian, and Southeast Asian Studies). Together with the academic departments of Asian Studies and Pacific Islands Studies, CALL serves as a focal point for our faculty and students with interests in Asia and Oceania, facilitating cross-campus collaboration, programming, and community outreach. They also support faculty and student development, instruction, research, and publications, and serve the educational and cultural interests of Hawaii's community at large by promoting a deeper understanding of Asia and the Pacific regions.
