Center on Aging - Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health

Supporting a dementia-friendly community.

Over the past several years, the Center on Aging (COA) has strived to build a more dementia-friendly community in Hawaii. Our vision is to create communities statewide that are aware and empathetic towards persons with dementia and their caregivers and take action as a "Dementia Friend". Donations will be used to deliver "Dementia Friends" training to high school students in the Health Academies. For UH students and current health professionals, funds will support the development of a microcredential on "dementia capability". Finally, donations can support the implementation of a "memory cafe", which is an informal gathering space for persons with dementia and their caregivers to gather and socialize.
