The SimTiki Simulation Center at JABSOM spearheads technology-driven teaching and learning initiatives. Established in 2005, SimTiki has progressively incorporated advanced technologies into core curriculum training. It provides JABSOM students, throughout their four-year medical education, with simulated patient experiences using computer-controlled mannequins. Additionally, SimTiki caters to healthcare professionals across Hawai‘i, including residents, nurses, and paramedics.
This year, we aim to introduce virtual reality to enhance medical education by creating immersive learning environments. We intend to integrate virtual reality not only for teaching and learning, but also for assessing student performance and readiness for real-world patient care. To support this initiative, we are seeking funding for five to 10 entry-level virtual reality headsets and accompanying training software.
