The Eddie Kamae Songbook & Archive
Ensuring the legacy lives on.
Eddie and Myrna Kamae committed their lives to sharing the stories and music of the elders so that traditional knowledge is passed down from generation to generation. The Eddie & Myrna Kamae Endowment is focused on ensuring their archive is widely accessible so it continues to touch the hearts, minds, and spirits of all who engage with it. To ensure the legacy lives on after their non-profit ceases operations in December 2025, we plan to raise a $1,000,000 endowment that provides $40,000 a year to support the following initiatives:
- Kamae Archive E Ho‘omau Undergraduate Internship: Annual semester internship for two undergraduate students to gain exposure and skills working on Kamae archive development and outreach projects with ʻUluʻulu: The Henry Kuʻualoha Giugni Moving Image Archive and The James & Abigail Campbell Library, the Kamae Archive caretakers.
- Kamae Archive E Hoʻomau Graduate Internship: Provides graduate students with the opportunity to work a semester with the Kamae Archive to supplement their training to become librarians, archivists, or teachers.
- Kamae Student Engagement Research Fellowship: Awards 4- $1,500 merit-based annual scholarships that encourage undergraduate and graduate students to utilize the Kamae Archive for their academic/career pathway and passion.
- Kamae Faculty Engagement Grant: An annual $5,000 faculty grant that provides funding for faculty in any discipline to utilize the Kamae Archive for a research, teaching, or community engagement project.
- Kamae Archive Professional Development: Provide professional development for the Kamae Archive staff to continue learning and sharing information with professional and community networks, $4,000 annually. Keep the Eddie Kamae Songbook website live and up-to-date, $3,800 annually. Provide music and archival consultant support to help library and archival staff care for the Kamae Archive, $2,000 annually.
