We’ve learned in recent years that disaster will strike, and it will affect the University of Hawaiʻi community in unpredictable ways. Through floods, fires, and disease, your university is committed to working with local governments, community partners and residents in responding and recovering.
UH is deeply involved in such Maui recovery efforts as:
- Testing water for contaminants created by the incineration of plastics, vehicles, and household chemicals.
- Training residents for jobs directly related to recovery, in areas such as hazardous waste cleanup.
- Distributing onions, eggplant, kale, bananas, bok choy, and other Maui produce to UH Maui College students and their community.
- Offering trauma-informed workbooks and resource cards for families of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to help with mental health care.
The Disaster Relief, Response, and Recovery Fund is ready with quick, flexible support through Hawaiʻi’s university whenever the next crisis arises.
